Infomercial Advertising and Intellectual Property

The other day I was speaking to a friend about an invention they had. This idea was a great idea, and we both thought it will do very well. We got into doing some research on patenting, and I even called up one of my friends in law school to pick their brain. What I found out really shaped my perception of how a product can come to the market and become successful - especially if that product is invented by an individual and presented as such, and not by a big business.

The thing is that intellectual property today has changed. No longer can you secure your little spot exclusively and make money off of it like you could 50 or 100 years ago. Today anyone can rip anything off, and will do it because intellectual property is so ambiguous. But the key is in how you market it - and that is why I realized the importance of infomercial advertising.

Infomercial advertising is something you can do for yourself - you can market your product and not worry about pitching it to a company, only for that company to steal your idea later. Infomercial advertising works, and is effective - and you can get your money's worth before your idea becomes a trend setter and stolen by others.
